No More Punitive Damage Caps In Missouri
In a stunning hand down on September 9, 2014, a Missouri Appellate Court overturned a statute capping punitive damages. Punitive damages are designed to punish a wrongdoer in a civil case and make an example of the defendant to the entire community. In overturning the caps, the court said that a cap was contrary to the 7th amendment right to trial by jury.
