New HIPAA Guidelines Make Getting Your Records Easier (In Theory)
Posted on Jan 20, 2016
In new guidelines issued, medical providers can no longer require you to give a reason why you want your records. The law is now: "it's none of their business". The forms many health care providers use, require a reason why you want your records. These forms are now obsolete.
The other change is that providers cannot withhold record requests because it may make the requester upset to find out what's in the records.
These changes make requesting and getting medical records more accessible to everybody.
